Course description/abstract:
This 2.5-hour session presented by Michael Casey will explore various newer plumbing product
introductions and their function with respect to intended performance. We will also discuss various
new plumbing related regulations and issues, including chloramine EPDM degradation. Additionally,
we will discuss modalities and evidence of failures and/or improper installations and review several
actual case studies. Our emphasis will be the importance of keeping up to date with all systems to be
a cutting-edge inspector.
Goals:
Upon completion of this class, students will be more knowledgeable regarding the fundamental
function of various newer plumbing products or regulations and application to residential inspection.
Students will also be more knowledgeable regarding the appropriate conditions observed that warrant
recommendation of further analysis.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of:
1. Nomenclature specific to various newer plumbing systems from PEX to computerized faucets
and their relation to Home Inspection
2. Identify these newer products
3. Identify Modalities and evidence of failure
4. Common “defects” and recognition
